HEART TO HEART…

Dear FRIENDS in CHRISTmas JOY,

We all have a need to be loved. We are co-creators with God in giving new life to a very needy world. Every gift of self, every smile, every outward sign of friendship, and every prayer bring new life and new hope to a world filled with sadness, confusion, and strife.

It is our pleasure to let you know that we have found so much love, warmth, and giving in the Catholic Community of Bridgeton, Cedarville, and Port Norris. The Spirit of Christmas is alive and well here. Just look around….

The Churches look absolutely magnificent. The many who took their time, gave of their talents, and expressed their love, reflect who and what we are—a people in love with God, with Jesus, with Jesus’ Mother Mary, and with God’s Church. The Spirit of the Living God is alive and well and living through, with, and in us. God bless you all—YOU are wonderful!

We would like to thank everyone for all you have done to Keep Christ in Christmas and for showing us, and so many others, that Jesus is the Reason for the Season. We are all grateful for your time, talent, and treasure.

Thank you for all of your many cards, as well as gifts and foods of all sorts. Thanks also for your generosity for the Salvation Army Giving Tree as well as for the coat drives. The coat drives still continue. Be assured of our prayers and our deepest thanks.

May 2010 be a Happy, Healthy, and Holy Year for your and yours. May the Spirit of Christmas remain alive in you and continue to deepen your faith and foster your fellowship. May this New Year bring us all closer to God, the Church, and each other.

May Our Heavenly Mother Mary intercede in all our needs of 2010.

Rev. Ariel Hernandez, Rev. William Bleiler, Rev. Daniel DiNardo, Rev. William Kelly, Deacon C.J. Achee, Deacon, Carmen Bischer, Deacon William Johnson, Mother Graciela and The Sisters, and The Staff of Our Parishes.

Family Perspectives By Bud Ozar
If the way your family communicates or resolves conflicts is not working, then take a tip from the Magi in today’s gospel and find “another way.” Be a “wise” person in this New YEAR and change what isn’t working!!!

ST. ANTHONY'S ORGAN FUND DRIVE
Thank you to all of our parish families and friends who have contributed generously and helped us meet and exceed our goal of $4,000.00. We raised $4113.60 with your support. With happy, hopeful expectation that St. Anthony’s Mission is not closing, we anxiously await the new organ which is estimated to arrive near Christmas.

Stewardship Reflection
Humble Stewardship
“You, Bethlehem-Ephrathah, too small to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel.” - Micah 5:1

We may think that the gifts we have to offer may be too small or too inconsequential to give to God. Today we are reminded that God brought forth His greatest gift to mankind, His own Son, through the humble town of Bethlehem. He can also accomplish great things through our Stewardship if we generously offer our gifts to Him.

Retirement Fund for the Religious
Religious give thanks. Our parish contributed $341.47 to the Retirement Fund for Religious in the second collection on December 13, 2009. Of the support offered by this appeal, one religious writes, “We deeply appreciate this assistance. God’s loving care touches us through the hearts of thousands of Catholics who give so generously to this collection year after year.” Women and men religious throughout the country send their abundant thanks for your donation.

Marriage Moments by Susan Vogt The winter solstice brings the longest night of the year. Warm it with candlelight. For some couples, however, dark nights bring depression. If you are among those who are currently struggling in your marriage, turn to the power of prayer as one resource.

Petition Drive to Protect Marriage - In New Jersey, we are in the midst of a major effort to protect marriage as the union of a man and a woman. Governor Corzine has said he intends to enact a law that would make same-sex “marriage” legal in our state. The Bishops of New Jersey have united to oppose this effort to redefine marriage, while speaking out more clearly on the necessity to protect marriage as the foundation of the family and society. Part of the effort throughout the state is a petition signature drive in our parishes. This is your opportunity to send a message to your legislators that you want to protect and preserve marriage as the union of one man and one woman. This signature petition drive is set to take place later in the month of September, so that the signatures may reach the legislators before the November elections. Please read the petition below and take the time to sign the petition on the weekend(s) that the sheets are available. Petition: We, the undersigned parishioners, petition our members of the New Jersey General Assembly and Senate to preserve the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The institution of marriage existed long before any government, religion, or law. The Civil Union Act (NMJ Statutes 37:1-28) Chapter 103 of the laws of 2006 was enacted to give same-sex couples all the same rights and benefits as married couples. We respectfully ask you to enforce the Civil Union Act, and to reject all efforts to redefine marriage.

We are also accepting tax-deductible monetary donations to help defray the cost of the expenses. Thank you.
