For many years the U.S. bishops have supported decent health care for all based on our teaching that health care is essential for human life and dignity and on the Church's experience in providing health care and assisting those with coverage. We seek reform that protects the life, dignity and health care for all. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/healthcare. "No one should be required to pay for or participiate in abortion." STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION - Grateful Stewards
"Immediately he received sight and folowed him on the way." (Mark 10:52b)
Stewardship calls us to be grateful. Like all of our basic senses and talents, sight is a gift we often take for granted. Remember that whatever we do, we do with the gifts that God has given to us.

MERGER CORNER
A committee with representatives from each of the four merging parishes has been working to write a Mission Statement for our Holy Cross Parish. We plan to present a darft of our new Mission Statement to our fellow parishioners sometime in November.

The Transitional Ministry Committee met Sept. 30, and among the topics discussed were outreach efforts to welcome back Catholics to the church, provisions to address the needs of the poor, the unborn, marginalized and immigrants in both charity and justice, strategies to initiate ministries and assistance for senior citizens and those with special needs, strategies to initiate an ongoing welcoming environment for the disabled, and planned multicultural and multiethnic communities in church and parish life.

If you have any questions about the merger of the four parishes or wish to provide input, please contact Father Ariel Hernandez, our Priest Convener, or a Core Team member.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION - Stewardship Responsibility
"It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." (Mark 10:25)

These words of Jesus are so harsh that sometimes we are tempted to ignore our Stewardship responsibility, thinking that He really could not have meant them. Yet when our lives revolve around too many material possessions it is difficult to find the necessary time for God, for salvation and for God's beloved poor.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar
Today's gospel is about a "new math." In a Christian marriage, 1+1 does not equal 1 or 2, but 3. Each person retains their own unique identity but together create another identity (the "one flesh" Jesus speaks of in the gospel) which is greater than the sum of the individuals. Christian marriage is a challenge to be greater than ourselves.

MERGER CORNER
The Transitional Ministry Committee met Sept. 16. Among the recommendations made by the Transitional Ministry Committee to the Priest Co-Conveners and Core Team is that ministries should remain in the churches that currently run them but that a common bulletin should be created and dispersed at all four merging churches announcing all ministry events for all parishes. The Transitional Ministry Committee will meet again on Sept. 30, 2009 at St. Teresa's.
The Core Team also formed a committee to write a Mission Statement for Holy Cross Parish using guidelines supplied by the Diocese. That committee will meet Oct. 5, 2009.
If you have any questions about the merger of the four parishes or wish to provide input, please contact one of the Priest Co-Conveners or a Core Team member.

This year's Chicken BBQ was a great success! We sold out of chickens, all 1400 dinners! There were so many wonderful people from all four parishes pitching in to make it such a great event. We want to thank everyone who came out to help on Friday for prepping food, Saturday for setting up tents and getting chickens, and on Sunday for any and everything that needed doing. If this is any indication of the future, Holy Cross parish is going to have an enormous Chicken BBQ!! If was a pleasure working with all of you who volunteered, we couldn't have done it without you! We are looking forward to seeing even more people lending a hand for next year! God Bless, From the Contino and Maier Families

MERGER CORNER
The Core Team's Transitional Finance and Facilities Committee formed a Human Resources subcommittee that will review the staffing needs of the new parish and report back to the Core Team.
The Transitional Liturgy Committee met to review the lists of tasks sent by the Diocese for the committee to complete before the merger, and it was determined that the committee had addressed all of the issues. The Transitional Liturgy Committee also shared ideas about the Liturgy for the merger and will continue that discussion at the next meeting. Included in the agenda for the next meeting will be the formation of a Music Council.
The Transitional Ministry Committee also met and among the topics discussed was a Youth Ministry for the new parish.
The Core Team has also begun the process of writing a Mission Statement for the new parish through a subcommittee that will include members from each of the four merging parishes.
If you have any questions about the merger of the four parishes or wish to provide input, please contact one of the Priest Co-Conveners or a Core Team member.

Next week our parish will take up the Peter's Pence Collection. This Collection allows the Holy Father to cast the light of Christ upon the world by providing emergency assistance to those who need it most around the globe. Please be generous in next week's Peter's Pence Collection.

MISSION STATEMENT
In a pre-revolutionary war multi-Christian environment St. Michael's Church, Cedarville, was incorporated in 1942 under the episcopal jurisdiction of the Diocese of Camden dedicated in the Catholic tradition through its assigned pastors and competent leaders for spreading the fullness of the faith by the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the priestly worship of Almighty God: "I will build my Church." (Matthew 16:16). Prior to the 20th-Century it's original jurisdiction fell to the Catholic Diocese of Trenton with the missionary foundation of St. Anthony's Church in Port Norris in 1913, later embraced as one of St. Michael's several missions in a 400 sq. mile wooded, farming and bayside region. Now in it's 21st-Century, St. Michael's Church having consolidated as a newly formed Parish of the Holy Cross with the merging Catholic Churches in Bridgeton and Rosenhayn continues its same mission challenging the faithful in a more dedicated Stewardship of time, talent and treasure for the building up of God's Kingdom on earth to His great honor and Glory until He comes again. STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
"Stewardship Nourishment"
"Get up and eat, else the journey will be too long for you!" (Kings 19:7b)
Jesus knew that the Stewardship journey would be difficult, so He gave us the nourishment of the Eucharist. When we join our sacrifices with the sacrifices of the mass, we find the strength to live out our calling to Stewardship.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE By Bud Ozar
Jesus tells us in today's gospel to "stop complaining among yourselves." Family conflict is inevitable but constant whining destroys relationships. We may feel better but others feel bitter. Address differences honestly and respectfully. Don't make them personal attacks.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS
Dates don't always have to be in the evening. Consider a lunch date. It's cheaper than dinner and if your kids are in school you don't have to get a babysitter.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
"Stewardship not Hoarding"
"Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion; thus will I test them, to see whether they follow my instruction or not." (Exodus 16:4b)

Stewardship is about responsibility. God tested the Israelites when gathering manna, not to hoard unneeded amounts. We are also called to be content with a fair portion and be willing to share the rest with compassion.

MERGER CORNER
The Transitional Liturgy Committee discussed ways how the music ministries from the four merging parishes could be combined at a recent meeting held at ICC. Among the ideas discussed, one suggestion was that the choirs could rotate among the four churches. The Transitional Liturgy Committee also discussed forming a "Music Council" that would plan and develop our music ministry and include the music/choir director from each of the four merging parishes. The Transitional Liturgy Committee's next meeting is August 17 at St. Teresa's. Also, our second Unity Hymn Sing will be held on August 21 at 7:00 at St. Teresa's. Our first Unity Hymn Sing was a great success. We encourage our fellow parishioners to attend on August 21 and enjoy the musical talents of the men, women and children of our merging parishes.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
"Stewardship of Sharing"
"There is a boy who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?" (John 6:9)

The miracle of the Loaves and Fishes is the only one of our Lord's miracles which is recorded six times in the Gospel. It carries two important messages. First, no matter how little we have, we always have enough to share in Stewardship. Second, Christ can take our humble gifts and do great things with them if we are just willing to let him.

F.L.A.M.E. III Sessions - Discernment and the Laity's Call to Ministry
When having to deal with major career and life events, have you ever asked yourself how do you know that you are moving in the correct direction? With such choices, where is God in all of this? Wondering how God is REALLY working in your life?

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
"Stewards Lack Nothing"
"The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I lack." (Psalm 23:1)
Modern advertising tempts us to want so many things. Yet a faithful Steward knows the difference between what he wants and what he needs. We can give generously when we trust that the Lord will provide for all our true needs.

MERGER CORNER
The Priest Co-Conveners and Core Team thank our fellow parishioners for their participation in the naming of the new parish. The results of balloting over two weekends at the four merging parishes have been forwarded to Bishop Galante for his review.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
"Stewardship Baggage"
"He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick - no food, no sack, no money in the belts." (Mark 6:8)
How different are we than the Apostles who took nothing when they ventured out to serve God? Today, we make our journey through stewardship more difficult if we drag along too much material baggage. The more we can let go, the freer we are to serve God with love and joy.

FAMILY PERSPECTIVES By Bud Ozar
Jesus sent out His apostles without a lot of "things." Today's gospel challenges us to look at the "things" crowding our lives; we collect, possess, argue over, and worry about "things." Often we are so busy doing "things" we don't have time for the people closest to us. Are "things" separating you from your family?

MARRIAGE MOMENTS
What's the most important factor in choosing a spouse? Not even Solomon should attempt to answer this, but consider the following three ingredients: Physical attraction + shared values + full commitment = a good chance to make a marriage work.

PARENTING POINTERS
Do summer days with kids wear you out? Even if your children are past the napping stage, consider an "after lunch quiet hour." Kids don't have to sleep, just spend some time reading, drawing, or daydreaming. Having moments of quiet during the day give God space to enter our lives.

SILENT RETREAT
A Woman's Silent Retreat sponsored by The Mother of Divine Mercy Center of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and spiritually directed by Father Ariel Hernandez will be held on July 17-19 at Pope John Paul II Retreat Center in Vineland, NJ. All are invited to the peace and quiet that the presence of God provides, and to awaken a new life filled with faith, where you will come away and experience the companionship and comfort of the One who says, "Be still and know that I am God."
